Rules for choosing a Syrian domain name
Registered domain names must be in the following format:
A- The Syrian national domain name in Arabic letters:
- To include only Arabic letters.
- That a sentence begins with a letter, does not end with a dash “-” and does not contain two consecutive dashes. “—”
- The number of characters used in the name must not exceed 63 characters and must not be less than two characters.
- The words should not be connected to each other and the name should not contain spaces. They can be replaced with a dash.”-“
- The name must not contain the shadda letter “ّ ” or diacritics.
- The name must not contain the elongation or Kashida character “ـــ”
- Do not use the zero “0” as a separator between words.
B- The Syrian national domain name in Latin letters:
It must be composed of Latin letters (A-Z), and does not distinguish between lowercase and uppercase letters, or numbers (0-9), the dash “-” or any combination thereof, and the use of characters from other languages is not accepted.
- It must begin and end with a letter or number (A-Z, 0-9) and no spaces are allowed between the letters of the name.
- The number of characters used in the name must not exceed 63 characters and must not be less than 2 characters.
- The domain name must be related to the applicant and not registered in bad faith to infringe upon the rights of others.
- Names containing words with inappropriate meanings (in any language) or that conflict with religions, customs, or laws and regulations in force in the Syrian Arab Republic are not permitted to be registered.
- The customer can choose between registering the domain name only without activation (without specifying name servers) or with activation (with specifying name servers).
- A customer who has registered a domain name and specified name servers for it may register subdomains at the next level under the domain name he has registered, without charging any additional fees for this, provided that this is for his own use only, i.e., he does not register such subdomains for other customers.
5. The Syrian Telecommunications Authority determines the names with special significance that may not be registered as second-level domains except in accordance with special conditions as follows:

- The following special domain names may be registered as second-level domains, subject to special conditions as follows:
- Names of governorates, cities, regions, and countries: These can only be given to government agencies. Individuals and private entities must add a word or number according to the following example: (Homs-accountants.sy)
- Names of professions, names of people, and languages: If a word or number is added according to the following example:
(Aliothman.sy, Ali-othman.sy, Ali1.sy)
- Global brand names: Provided that authorization or agency is obtained from the brand owner.
The company sets rules that determine cases of visual similarity between domains registered in Arabic characters. You may refuse to register a domain name if it would cause confusion with other registered domain names, as follows:
- The similarity resulting from domain names that contain more than one syllable that is separated by a dash (-) and the same domain name without the dash (-), provided that there is a tied taa (ة) at the end of each syllable of the syllables that make up the domain name (except for the last syllable), for example: (Damascus-University.Syria and Damascus-University.Syria) and (Damascus-University-Journal.Syria and Damascus-University-Journal.Syria).
- The similarity resulting from the letter Alif in its different forms with hamzas and long vowels (A I A A), example: (Ahmed.Syria, Ahmad.Syria, Ahmad.Syria) are synonyms for the domain: (Ahmed.Syria).
- The similarity resulting from the letter Alif Maqsura (ى) and the letter Ya at the end of the domain name, or when it comes directly after the dash (-) or when it comes directly after a number, for example: (Forum.Syria and Forum.Syria).
- The similarity resulting from the letter ha and the letter taa connected to the end of the word or when it comes directly after a dash (-) or when it comes directly after a number, for example: (city.Syria and city.Syria).
- The similarity resulting from the letter Haa (ه) separated at the end of the word and the number 5 in Arabic, example: (Rafa.Syria and Rafa5.Syria).
- The similarity resulting from the letter Alif and the number 1 in the range, for example: (Raed.Syria and R1Raed.Syria).
- Similarity resulting from the repetition of a letter From the non-connected letters, for example: (سيريابوك.سورية و سيريابووك.سورية).
